ABILITIES FIRST FUND
The Abilities First Fund was established in 1999 to assist people with disabilities in purchasing equipment and aids that will help them more fully participate in life, work and school. Funds may be awarded to individuals who reside in Northeastern Minnesota, Northwestern Wisconsin, or Northern Michigan, whose health insurance or financial resources are insufficient to cover their medical needs. These funds are available only after all other payment mechanisms have been explored and exhausted. This fund is administered by a committee of professionals and other community members who are familiar with the needs of a) people living with a physical disability; b) third-party payment mechanisms; and/or c) other programs and services available on a federal, state or local level.
