PLAYcetera 2007: Little House for a Big Cause
PLAYcetera 2007 featured a custom-built, deluxe, two-story log cabin - the ultimate in Northwood’s luxury!
Designed and built in Duluth using donations from generous local businesses, this little gem was sold to help support the Solvay Hospice House Compassionate Care Fund. For more information about the hospice house and the fund, click here.
The History Cameron Fryer brought an idea with him when he became co-chair of ARTcetera 2005. He envisioned bringing together different segments of the community to build something that had not been seen in Duluth before: luxury playhouses. For the past three years, dedicated union and community volunteers have created the Log Cabin (2005), Old-Fashioned Firehouse, French Chateau, the Little Red Schoolhouse, the Swiss Chalet and the Log Cabin (2006) and the Log Cabin (2007) playhouses, which have raised over $144,000 for the hospice house project.
The team returned to create a final, fabulous playhouse. Designed by local architect John Ivey Thomas and built by apprentices at Carpenters Local 361, under the oversight of Rick Berg and Keith Olafson, the Log Cabin 2007 was painted by Craig Olson and volunteers from Painters Local 106 and wired by Jim Brown and Electrical Workers #242. A playful woodsy design created by local interior designer Mignon Fryer featured custom-built log furniture donated by Slumberland-Hayward.
